In 2006 the Irish government formed a body called the Private Security Authority (PSA) to oversee the intruder alarm industry. As part of the standards set by the PSA, it is illegal to hire an intruder alarm installation company that currently does not hold a PSA licence. In order obtain a license, the intruder alarm installation company must have its work certified by one of the five certification bodies in Ireland. They are:
EQA Ireland Ltd, NSAI, SSAIB, Management Systems Certification Ltd, Insight Certification Ltd
Other licensing requirements include Garda Vetting and a current Tax Clearance Certificate.
All intruder alarms are required to be installed to the new European Standard EN50131. This has taken over from the old IS199 standard.
Insurance companies offer discounts on home insurance on new intruder alarms installed by PSA licenced installation companies.
